Dubai Smart City

Dubai is no stranger to world-firsts and smart infrastructure. Whether it be the construction of the Burj-Al Arab (worlds only 7-star hotel from 1999-2008), Palm islands (worlds largest artificial islands), driver-less metro (worlds longest fully automated metro network), Burj Khalifa (the worlds tallest tower) or recently, The Mall of the World (worlds first climate-controlled domed city) Dubai has definitely raised the bar of what is technologically possible.

Therefore it wasnt a surprise when it was announced that a new project was being launched to transform Dubai into a smart city. This smart shift means a big change in the day to day lives of the Dubai residents education, general security and healthcare will all be managed via smart systems, which again will undoubtedly be another world-first. Electric-powered vehicles, rechargeable bikes, pop-up digital play tables, optimally-designed bus shelters and an application that steers drivers to available parking all may sound like something out of a futuristic movie, but are actually initiatives to turn Dubai into a smart city within the next few years.

This smart move will not only see Dubai recognised for another world-first, but now more importantly, will establish the city as a major technological hub. It will throw the spotlight on the increasing role technology has to play in creating new opportunities for Dubai over the next few years. Sheikh Mohammed confirmed: Our country is today ushering in a new era for the improvement and development of quality of life through this gigantic project, which got underway through an unprecedented public-private partnership to make a new reality for all and change the concept of the city which the human being lives in, so as to live with him through his smart phone and who will be its key pivot.
