…An above average puzzle for this site. Good clues, but relatively easy. Just a thought on 10A, that we havent cabooses on trains in many, many years – but it works here. A more subtle clue might be good. (Once ended a train) Concur with the previous comment about 12A; a different clue, regarding putting money aside, would fit the word better. 16A does need the singular article (a) dropped since your answer is plural. Good decoy on 14D: NAP is the obvious answer. If nod is typically used with off, you could put (with off) in the clue; the sitting position reference may not be necessary. And finally, 20D suggested an item used in *many* types of cookies. Had to think a bit. Breakfast item often used for cookies gets there quicker – but, hey, we do the crosswords to exercise the brain, so thats only a suggestion, not a criticism….

…I think there has been some confusion about 16A. An apsis (with an I) is in astronomy the point of greatest or least distance of the orbit of a celestial body from a center of attraction. Also is a synonym for apse, which is the definition we are concerned with here a domed or vaulted recess or projection on a building especially the east end of a church; usually contains the altar. But apsis is in the singular despite having an s at the end, (plural is apsides by the way), the singular for apse is just that without an S. In the plural it takes as s. So Pearl231 should make her clue plural for the answer to fit (Domed recesses containg an altar). Or, if she wanted, she could use apsis as a domed recess containing an altar, and change the definition for 18D to Irish Revolutionaly Army or something like that. ;-D…
